John Hampden Randolf was born on March 24, 1813 in Nottoway County, Virginia. His father recieved a ferdral court judge job in Woodville, Mississippi. As a young man his family had always grew cotton. When John was old enough to own land he moved to southern Louisiana to grow sugar cane,believing it would bring in more profit. when John first moved to Louisiana he lved in the forest home and grew cotton till he could learn to grow sugar cane. John started out with 20 slaves and $20,000 from the dowry that his sweet Emily gave to him. Once John was knowleaged in the art of growing surgar cane, he began to grow and sale it.
